Melanotaenia goldiei
Origin: Goldie River, Papua New Guinea
Melanotaenia goldiei, the Goldie River Rainbowfish, originates from the Goldie River near Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. Males display silver to gold flanks with red-tipped dorsal and caudal fins and a distinctive mid-lateral stripe. A hardy, adaptable species that colours up beautifully in well-planted tanks with good lighting. A great choice for intermediate-level rainbowfish keepers seeking species beyond the most common varieties.
School of 6+. Temperature 22–28 °C. Neutral to slightly alkaline water. Varied diet: quality flake, spirulina, frozen daphnia. Excellent aeration. 120+ L for a school.
