About

Somileptes gongota is a graceful, elongated cobitid with a series of round lateral spots across a warm golden body. It inhabits clear, sandy and gravelly rivers across the Ganges-Brahmaputra drainage and prefers well-oxygenated conditions with gentle to moderate current. Social by nature, it does best in small groups and is an active and visible daytime loach that brings movement to community aquariums.

Care Guide

Water: 20-26°C, pH 6.5-7.5, soft to moderately hard, gentle to moderate flow. Tank: Minimum 80 L, fine sand with smooth pebble areas, open swimming space. Feeding: Small sinking pellets, frozen daphnia, bloodworm, small invertebrates. Behaviour: Active daytime shoaler; forages energetically across sand and gravel. Compatibility: Peaceful; good community fish with medium schooling fish.
