Cyprinus rubrofuscus (domesticated koi)
Origin: Captive bred (Japan)
Goshiki, meaning 'five colours' in Japanese, displays a complex and captivating pattern of white, red, black, blue, and dark blue across its scales, with a distinctive dark net-like scale reticulation overlaying the base pattern. The interplay of these five colour elements makes each Goshiki entirely unique and highly prized among serious koi collectors. Goshiki is considered a Kawarimono variety and has grown in popularity across European koi ponds in recent decades.
House in a well-filtered pond of at least 2,000 L with good water quality and clarity for best visual appreciation. Maintain pH 7.0–8.5, temperature 5–25°C; cold-hardy through Northern European winters. Feed high-quality koi pellets or sticks with color-enhancing supplements to maintain the depth of red and contrast of dark markings. Perform regular water changes and UV sterilization to prevent bacterial and parasitic infections common in high-density koi ponds.
