Xiphophorus hellerii var.
Also known as: Green Hi-Fin Swordtail, Hi-Fin Green Swordtail
Origin: Captive bred
The Green Hi-Fin Swordtail showcases one of the most natural-looking swordtail colour forms — an olive-green body with subtle iridescent scaling — combined with the dramatic hi-fin dorsal mutation that transforms the fish's silhouette. The lower sword extension provides the classic swordtail profile.
Green swordtails carry genetics closest to the wild-type Xiphophorus hellerii, giving them good constitution and adaptability. The hi-fin mutation adds visual drama without significantly compromising health.
An excellent choice for naturalistic biotope-inspired aquariums or hobbyists who appreciate the elegance of natural colouration over bold pigmented strains.
Water: 20–27 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 10–20; adaptable; tolerates a broad range of hard water. Tank: 100 L minimum; avoid decor that can snag the hi-fin dorsal. Feeding: Quality flake, spirulina, frozen Artemia; 2–3 meals daily. Breeding: Prolific livebearer; hi-fin trait dominant; green colour heritable. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish; males may display to each other without serious harm.
