Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Green Lace Guppy, Lace Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (originally Trinidad)
The Green Lace Guppy combines two desirable genetic traits — a metallic green body gene and a lace pattern reticulation — to produce a fish of exceptional visual complexity. The fine lacework of dark lines over the iridescent green base gives males a jewel-like quality under bright aquarium lighting.
Lace pattern guppies are bred for the precision and regularity of their reticulation, and quality specimens show a consistent, evenly spaced network across both the body and the large tail fin. Selecting for both colour and pattern simultaneously makes this strain slightly more challenging to breed true.
In the aquarium the Green Lace Guppy is as undemanding as any fancy guppy, thriving in warm, hard water with regular feeding and maintenance.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderately hard to hard water. Tank: 60 L minimum; good plant cover; gentle flow to keep large tails from tearing. Feeding: Varied diet of flake, micro-pellets, and live or frozen invertebrates. Breeding: Prolific; maintain strain by selective pairing; fry easy to raise. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish; avoid boisterous or nippy tankmates.
