Poecilia reticulata var.
Also known as: Green Moscow Guppy, Moscow Green Guppy
Origin: Captive bred (Moscow lineage)
The Green Moscow Guppy is one of the most sought-after Moscow-lineage strains, displaying a uniform metallic green iridescence across the entire body and into the large fan or delta tail. Under bright LED lighting the colouration shifts between teal, emerald, and gold — a mesmerising effect.
Bred to rigorous show standards, this strain rewards keepers who maintain stable, hard water and provide a nutrient-rich diet. Colour expression peaks in mature males around 4–6 months of age.
For best results, keep two or three females per male and perform regular 20–30% water changes weekly to maintain the water quality this strain rewards with its best colour.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.0, GH 10–20; mineral-rich water enhances the metallic sheen. Tank: 60 L minimum; plants with fine leaves recommended; avoid strong surface agitation. Feeding: Colour-enhancing flake, spirulina, live Artemia nauplii; 2–3 small feedings daily. Breeding: Prolific; drop 20–60 fry every 4–6 weeks; breed in a separate tank for strain purity. Compatibility: Peaceful community fish; do not house with fin-nipping species.
