Aplocheilus blockii
Also known as: Green Panchax, Block's Panchax
Origin: South India, Sri Lanka
Aplocheilus blockii is the smallest and most peaceful of the Aplocheilus killifish, native to slow-moving waters and paddy fields of South India and Sri Lanka. Males display a beautiful iridescent green body with red-orange spots on the dorsal and caudal fins. Its smaller size and less aggressive nature make it more suitable for community tanks than its larger relatives, though a tight lid remains essential.
Water: 22–28 °C, pH 6.0–7.8, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 40 L with floating plants; secure lid essential (active jumper). Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, small insects; micro-pellets accepted. Behaviour: Peaceful for a killifish; males mildly competitive; fine with similar-sized fish. Compatibility: Can keep with robust community fish over 3 cm; avoid tiny nano fish.
