Dichotomyctere nigroviridis
Also known as: Green Spotted Puffer, GSP, Spotted Puffer
Origin: Southeast Asia and India (estuaries)
Dichotomyctere nigroviridis is widely distributed across Southeast Asia in brackish estuaries and coastal river systems, where adults live in full brackish to near-marine salinity. Its vivid green spots on a bright yellow-green body make it one of the most striking puffer species. It is commonly sold as a freshwater fish but must be transitioned to brackish water as it matures to prevent chronic stress and disease.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.5–8.5, SG 1.005–1.018 for adults; juveniles tolerate lower salinity. Tank: Minimum 80 L; coral sand substrate, hardy decor, and good flow to simulate brackish estuary conditions. Feeding: Snails, clams, mussels, bloodworm, and krill. Behaviour: Aggressive and notorious fin-nipper; species-only housing strongly recommended. Compatibility: Species-only; a confirmed fin-nipper that will injure any tankmate.
