About
Xiphophorus hellerii, the Swordtail, is one of the most recognisable livebearers. The green wild-type variety features males with a vivid elongated lower tail extension (the 'sword') and a distinctive red lateral stripe. Active, hardy, and easy to breed. Sold as a male/female pair.
Care Guide
At least 80 L; males are active swimmers. Keep more females than males to reduce aggression. Feed quality flake, small pellets, and vegetable matter. Prefer hard, alkaline water. The male uses a gonopodium for internal fertilisation. Fry are born fully formed.
