Puntigrus tetrazona var. (green)
Also known as: Green Tiger Barb, Moss Barb
Origin: Southeast Asia (captive-bred)
The Green Tiger Barb is a selectively bred colour morph in which melanin is distributed more evenly across the body, producing a deep iridescent green or teal sheen overlaying the usual tiger-banded pattern. The black bands are typically deeper and more extensive than in the standard form. Care, temperament, and schooling requirements are identical to the wild-type Tiger Barb.
Water: 22–26°C, pH 6.0–7.5, moderate hardness (GH 5–15). Tank: 80 L minimum; well-planted with open swimming lanes. Feeding: Omnivore; varied diet of flake, pellet, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, and daphnia. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; keep in groups of 8+ to reduce fin-nipping. Compatibility: Excellent with other Tiger Barb morphs, danios, and robust mid-water tetras.
