Geophagus sveni is a moderately sized eartheater endemic to the São Francisco river basin of Brazil. Its defining feature is the iridescent green cheek marking contrasted against a warm olive body with faint vertical bars. A mouthbrooder that forms loose social groups and is moderately easy to maintain.
Water: 25-29°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to moderately hard water. Tank: Minimum 250L, fine sand substrate, some driftwood and open areas for group dynamics. Feeding: Quality sinking pellets, frozen invertebrates; supplement with vegetable-based foods. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; peaceful in groups with space for each fish. Compatibility: Good with large tetras, corydoras, and other medium cichlids from South America.
