About

Nothobranchius guentheri is among the most robust and commonly kept annual killifish, tolerating a wider range of conditions than many of its relatives. Males display bright yellow-orange bodies with distinctive blue-edged scales and a dark-bordered caudal fin. Found in seasonal floodplain pools from coastal Tanzania to Zanzibar, it is an ideal first annual killifish for those new to the group.

Care Guide

Water: 20–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 30 L species tank; peat or sand substrate for spawning; secure lid mandatory. Feeding: Live or frozen small invertebrates; dry food accepted but not preferred. Behaviour: Males spar; keep one male with two to three females per tank. Compatibility: Best kept as a species; can mix with very small, fast peaceful fish at keeper's risk.
