Leptobotia guilinensis
Origin: Guangxi, China (karst stream systems)
Leptobotia guilinensis is an attractively patterned river loach from the karst stream systems around Guilin in Guangxi Province, China, featuring irregular dark blotches and spots over a pale tan body that provides excellent camouflage among rocky substrates. It thrives in well-oxygenated, cooler water with a rocky aquascape that mimics its native fast-flowing hill stream and limestone cave habitat. An interesting species for enthusiasts of Chinese freshwater fish and hillstream biotopes.
House in a well-oxygenated aquarium (minimum 200 L) with a rocky substrate, smooth pebbles, and strong current. Maintain cooler water (16–24°C), pH 6.5–7.5, moderate hardness. Provide robust rockwork and caves for shelter. Feed varied omnivore diet: sinking catfish wafers, bloodworm, Daphnia, and algae wafers. Can be kept singly or in small groups of 3 or more. Sensitive to low oxygen; ensure strong surface agitation.
