Poecilia reticulata
Origin: South America, Caribbean (widely cultivated varieties)
Assorted male guppies are offered in a colourful mix of colour forms and tail shapes, spanning reds, blues, greens, yellows, and purples with a variety of tail forms including delta, veil, lyre, and round tails. The quintessential beginner livebearer, the guppy is extraordinarily adaptable, colourful, and easy to breed. Males are peaceful with each other and safe with virtually all community fish, making them one of the most popular freshwater fish in Belgian and Dutch aquarium stores.
House in a well-planted aquarium of at least 40 L. Maintain temperature 18–28°C, pH 6.8–8.5, moderately hard water. Feed quality micro-pellets, flake, and frozen Artemia or Daphnia for best colour development. Males do not need to be isolated but avoid keeping with known fin-nippers. Compatible with tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and most peaceful community fish. Excellent first fish for beginner aquarists.
