Gymnarchus niloticus, the Aba-Aba or African Knifefish, is a remarkable fish that swims using only undulating dorsal fin movements — no caudal fin. Uses weak electric pulses for electrolocation. Grows very large (1.6 m in wild). Requires species-only setup.
Very large aquarium 1500 L+ for adult. Temperature 22–28°C, pH 6.5–7.5. Species-only — highly territorial and aggressive. Feed large pellets, earthworms, fish fillets. Very long-lived.
