Maylandia hajomaylandi
Also known as: Hajomaylands Mbuna, Hajomaylands Cichlid
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
Maylandia hajomaylandi is an uncommon mbuna found only around Chizumulu Island, making it a prized rarity among Malawi cichlid collectors. Males display an attractive combination of blue body colouration with orange highlights, making it one of the more colourful Maylandia species. Due to its restricted distribution, wild-caught specimens are rare and captive-bred fish are the norm in the hobby.
Water: 24-28°C, pH 7.5-8.5, hard alkaline water; consistent parameters important. Tank: 150L minimum with well-structured rocky aquascape. Feeding: Algae-based diet; spirulina flakes and pellets; limit protein. Behaviour: Moderate aggression; typical mbuna territorial behaviour. Compatibility: Compatible with other mbuna of similar temperament.
