Pangio semicincta
Also known as: Half-banded Kuhli, Malayan Kuhli Loach
Origin: Malay Peninsula, Sumatra
Pangio semicincta closely resembles the common Kuhli Loach but is distinguished by dark bands that do not encircle the full circumference of its body, fading on the ventral surface. Its care requirements are essentially identical to P. kuhlii, and the two species can be kept together in mixed groups. Originating from the peat swamps and forest streams of the Malay Peninsula, it prefers dark, acidic conditions.
Water: 24-30°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft and acidic preferred. Tank: Minimum 60 L, fine sand, leaf litter, driftwood tannins beneficial. Feeding: Sinking micro-pellets, frozen daphnia, small worms, substrate-level foods. Behaviour: Retiring and secretive; pairs and groups become progressively bolder. Compatibility: Peaceful; excellent with nano fish, small tetras and dwarf shrimp.
