Betta splendens
Also known as: Halfmoon Female Betta, Female Betta, Siamese Fighting Fish
Origin: Southeast Asia
Female halfmoon bettas inherit the broad, fan-shaped tail of the halfmoon line while remaining considerably less aggressive than males. They are well-suited for sorority tanks of five or more females or as peaceful members of a community setup. Their colouration can rival males when well-conditioned.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — stable conditions are essential. Tank: minimum 20L, planted with hiding spots; sororities require 80L+ with dense planting. Feeding: betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, daphnia — feed small amounts twice daily. Behaviour: females are territorial with each other; introduce sorority groups simultaneously. Compatibility: peaceful community fish; avoid aggressive or nippy species.
