Betta splendens
Origin: Captive bred (Southeast Asia)
The Green Halfmoon Betta showcases a vivid emerald-green metallic coloration that shimmers across the body and the sweeping halfmoon finnage, produced by an iridescent structural layer overlying blue pigment that creates a color that appears to shift from teal to deep green depending on the viewing angle and lighting. True green bettas are highly regarded in the hobby as genuinely uncommon, and a well-developed specimen with full color saturation is a striking display fish.
House singly in a dedicated aquarium of at least 15 L with quality LED lighting that brings out the iridescent green coloration. Maintain temperature 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard clean water. Feed varied high-protein carnivore foods: frozen bloodworm, Artemia, and quality betta pellets. Weekly partial water changes maintain the clear, clean water that keeps the fish in peak colour. A tight-fitting lid is essential.
