Betta splendens
Origin: Captive bred (Southeast Asia)
The Red Dragon Halfmoon Betta displays a body covered in metallic crimson dragon-scale plating that shimmers brilliantly under aquarium lighting, topped off with a sweeping full 180-degree halfmoon tail in fiery red. This form is one of the most popular dragon-scale betta variants among collectors for its bold, intense colour and the dramatic impression it creates in a well-lit display aquarium. Best kept solitary with consistent warm, soft water and regular feeding.
House singly in a dedicated aquarium of at least 15 L. Maintain temperature 24–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard water. Feed varied high-protein carnivore foods: frozen bloodworm, Artemia, Daphnia, and high-quality betta pellets. Regular weekly partial water changes of 25–30% maintain pristine conditions and prevent fin deterioration. A tight-fitting lid is mandatory as bettas are prone to jumping.
