Betta splendens
Also known as: Female HMPK, Halfmoon Plakat Female, Female Plakat Betta
Origin: Southeast Asia
Female HMPKs are essential broodstock for hobbyist betta breeders and make attractive display fish in their own right. Their short fins suffer less damage in sorority settings compared to long-fin females. They are hardy and active, making them a practical yet beautiful choice.
Water: 26-30°C, pH 6.0-7.5, soft to medium hardness — regular water changes recommended. Tank: minimum 20L for a single female; 80L+ with heavy planting for sororities. Feeding: betta pellets, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp — two small feedings daily. Behaviour: females may show aggression in sororities — monitor closely after introduction. Compatibility: peaceful with most community species; avoid aggressive tank mates.
