Procambarus clarkii (orange form)
Also known as: Hammers Orange Lobster, Orange Crayfish, Orange Procambarus
Origin: North America (captive bred)
The Hammers Orange Lobster is a selectively bred orange variant of Procambarus clarkii, one of the most widely kept and hardiest freshwater crayfish species. Its bright tangerine-orange colouration makes it a bold and striking display animal. Like all P. clarkii, it is highly adaptable to a wide range of water conditions, tolerates temperature variation well, and is very easy to feed and maintain. However, it is destructive to plants and will predate small fish and shrimp.
Water: 16–28°C, pH 6.5–8.0, GH 6–18, KH 3–10; highly adaptable to most tap water. Tank: minimum 80 L, caves and hiding spots; secure lid — strong climber. Feeding: sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, frozen foods; omnivorous and unfussy. Behaviour: active and bold; destructive to plants; territorial with conspecifics. Compatibility: species-only or with large robust fish; not safe with plants or small invertebrates.
