Ptereleotris hanae
Origin: Western Pacific
The Hana Dartfish (Ptereleotris hanae) is an elegant and graceful goby from the Western Pacific, characterized by a delicate pale blue body with subtle pink-lavender hues and a distinctively elongated caudal tail that trails behind the fish as it hovers in gentle current above the reef slope. In its natural habitat it forms loose aggregations hovering just above the substrate, drifting on the current and picking off planktonic prey. In the aquarium it thrives in groups of three or more, where natural hovering behavior emerges and stress is reduced. When startled, it darts into a burrow or rock crevice with lightning speed. A beautiful, peaceful, and active nano reef species.
Maintain in groups of at least three in a minimum 120-liter aquarium with fine sandy areas for burrow construction and live rock for retreat. Feed twice daily with small frozen mysis, copepods, and marine flake. A tight-fitting lid with no gaps is essential — Ptereleotris dartfish are exceptional jumpers and will exit through even small openings. Peaceful and reef-safe with all corals, invertebrates, and dissimilar fish.
