Hyphessobrycon haraldschultzi
Origin: Upper Araguaia basin, Brazil
Hyphessobrycon haraldschultzi is an uncommon tetra from the upper Araguaia basin in Brazil, displaying a translucent silvery body with a striking horizontal black stripe running from the operculum to the caudal peduncle, complemented by subtle reddish accents in the fins. It is a calm and peaceful schooling fish that does best in soft, slightly acidic water with plenty of plant cover and driftwood. Its relative rarity in the hobby makes it a sought-after find for dedicated tetra enthusiasts.
House in groups of at least 6 in a well-planted aquarium (minimum 60 L). Maintain soft, slightly acidic water (pH 5.5–7.0, GH 1–10) at 23–27°C. Feed varied small omnivore foods: quality micro-pellets, crushed flake, Artemia nauplii, and Daphnia. Avoid boisterous or large tankmates; this species appreciates a calm, well-structured environment with shaded areas and floating plants.
