Caridina sp. 'Harlequin'
Origin: Taiwan (captive-bred)
The Harlequin Shrimp (Caridina sp. 'Harlequin') is an exceptionally ornamental freshwater shrimp displaying an intricate pattern of black, white, and red markings distributed across the body in a complex, irregular harlequin-style design that makes each individual unique and highly prized by serious shrimp collectors. Developed from Caridina bee shrimp selective breeding programs in Taiwan, it demands the same exacting water parameters as other Taiwan Bee Caridina — soft, acidic, low-TDS water with near-zero alkalinity — and is recommended only for dedicated advanced shrimp keepers with fully established, specialized Caridina setups. A true showcase species for planted Caridina biotope tanks.
Maintain in a dedicated Caridina shrimp tank with active substrate (ADA Amazonia, Benibachi, or equivalent) and RO water remineralized with Caridina-specific mineral salts. Target pH 5.8–6.8, GH 3–6, KH 0–2, TDS 100–150 ppm, temperature 20–24°C. Feed lightly with specialized bee shrimp foods, biofilm supplements, and leaf litter. Species-only tank or with other Caridina bee shrimp only. Never use copper-based medications.
