Rivulus hartii
Also known as: Hart's Rivulus, Trinidad Rivulus
Origin: Trinidad, Venezuela
Rivulus hartii is a robust, elongated killifish native to forest streams and pools of Trinidad and northern Venezuela. Unusually among killifish, it can survive brief periods out of water by moving across moist land — an adaptation for navigating its sometimes desiccating habitat. Males show attractive olive colouration with red spots.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard. Tank: 60L minimum, absolutely secure tight lid (this species escapes with ease), dense planting. Feeding: Carnivore — live/frozen invertebrates, accepts pellets and flake. Behaviour: Moderately aggressive between males; tolerates other species well. Compatibility: Suitable with robust medium-sized community fish.
