Corydoras hastatus
Also known as: Tail Spot Pygmy Cory, Hastatus Corydoras, Midwater Cory
Origin: Amazon basin, upper Paraguay, Brazil
Corydoras hastatus is found in the Amazon basin and upper Paraguay River system, typically in shallow vegetated margins. Like C. pygmaeus, it schools in open water and is not strictly bottom-dwelling. The distinctive black blotch at the base of the tail fin makes it immediately identifiable and adds visual interest in a group.
Water: 22–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderate (GH 4–12). Tank: 30 L minimum; fine substrate, planted margins, open midwater space. Feeding: Micro pellets, baby brine shrimp, Cyclops, micro worms. Behaviour: Midwater and surface schooler; keep 8+ for confident group behaviour. Compatibility: Excellent with nano tetras, small rasboras, shrimp, and other pygmy corys.
