Cirrhilabrus jordani
Origin: Hawaii, Johnston Atoll (endemic)
The Hawaiian Flame Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus jordani) is endemic to the Hawaiian Islands and Johnston Atoll, giving it restricted availability and a premium price. Males in breeding display are among the most spectacular fish in the marine hobby — their brilliant fiery red-orange bodies are accented with vivid yellow and electric blue markings that intensify during courtship flashing, creating a display of colors that surpasses almost any other Cirrhilabrus species. Hawaii's strict export regulations and the logistical challenges of collection mean that truly fine specimens are rare and command substantial prices even in specialty marine fish markets. A crown jewel for the dedicated fairy wrasse collector or reef aquarist.
Provide a minimum 200-liter aquarium with a tightly fitting lid — this species is an accomplished jumper. Keep as a harem of one male and multiple females, or as a mated pair. Feed twice daily with frozen mysis, cyclopeeze, enriched brine shrimp, and reef pellets. Peaceful with all reef inhabitants of different shapes and sizes. Males may flash aggressively at rival males but actual injury is rare in adequately sized systems.
