Rasbora cephalotaenia
Origin: Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo
Rasbora cephalotaenia, the Headband Rasbora, is a mid-sized and robust schooling fish from the blackwater streams and peat swamps of the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. It is named for the bold, solid dark stripe that runs continuously from the tip of its snout to the tail, combined with a distinctive dark blotch at the caudal fin base. A robust and adaptable species that tolerates soft to moderately hard water, it is an excellent choice for larger planted community tanks seeking a rasbora with more presence than the nano species.
House in groups of at least 5 in a planted aquarium (minimum 100 L). Maintain pH 5.0–7.5, temperature 23–28°C, soft to moderate hardness. Feed quality omnivore foods: flake, micro-pellets, frozen Artemia, and Daphnia. Compatible with similarly-sized peaceful community species. Provide driftwood and floating plants for a more natural environment. Very adaptable and low-maintenance.
