Hemimyzon nanensis
Also known as: Hemimyzon Hillstream Loach, Nan Hillstream Loach
Origin: Thailand
Hemimyzon nanensis is a uncommonly available hillstream loach from the upland tributaries of northern Thailand, displaying a warm tan base colour with rich dark brown spotting. It demands pristine, cool and highly oxygenated water to thrive, and is best suited to advanced hillstream aquarists with well-established high-flow systems. Rewarding in the right conditions, it will display active grazing and courtship behaviour.
Water: 20-24°C, pH 7.0-7.8, hard, low nitrate, powerful flow. Tank: Minimum 80 L, smooth boulders, dedicated hillstream pump. Feeding: Biofilm and algae grazer; algae wafers, blanched greens. Behaviour: Diurnal; active on rock and glass surfaces in strong flow. Compatibility: Peaceful; best with Gastromyzontidae relatives and small hillstream fish.
