Heros liberifer
Also known as: Green Liberifer Severum, Liberifer Cichlid (Green Form)
Origin: South America
The Green Form of Heros liberifer originates from Colombian and Venezuelan Orinoco tributaries. It is slightly more compact than H. efasciatus, with a proportionally smaller maximum size and a particularly vivid green-gold body colouration accented by fine red spotting on the mid-flanks and subtle lateral banding. This form is occasionally confused with H. efasciatus but can be distinguished by its smaller adult size, more rounded snout profile, and distinctive colouration. It adjusts well to aquarium life in soft, warm water and is a peaceful species compatible with a range of large, non-aggressive South American fish.
Water: 24–29°C, pH 5.5–7.0, soft (GH 2–10). Tank: Minimum 300L; driftwood, broad leaves, and subdued lighting to bring out best green-gold colour. Feeding: Omnivore; cichlid pellets, spirulina flake, frozen bloodworm, vegetables, and brine shrimp. Breeding: Flat-surface spawner; both parents are attentive; peaceful toward fry even as they grow. Compatibility: Excellent with large tetras, eartheaters, angelfish, and peaceful armoured catfish.
