Xiphophorus maculatus (captive bred)
Origin: Captive bred
The Hi-Fin Platy carries a genetic mutation that causes the dorsal fin to grow dramatically taller than in standard platy strains, creating an elegant, sail-like silhouette that makes it instantly distinctive in any livebearer aquarium. Available in a range of color forms including red, sunset, blue, and variatus patterns, they share the same easygoing, peaceful temperament and adaptability of standard platies. An excellent first livebearer for beginners seeking a fish with visual flair.
House in a well-planted aquarium of at least 60 L with neutral to slightly alkaline, moderately hard water (pH 7.0–8.2, GH 10–25). Maintain temperature 20–26°C. Feed varied omnivore foods: quality flake, micro-pellets, frozen Artemia, and blanched vegetables. Very adaptable and easy to breed; females will readily produce fry. Compatible with most peaceful community species. The tall dorsal fin is delicate — avoid fin-nipping species.
