Xiphophorus hellerii (captive bred)
Origin: Captive bred
The Hi-Fin Red Swordtail combines the classic vivid red body and elongated lower caudal sword of the traditional red swordtail with a dramatically tall, sail-like dorsal fin produced by a separate genetic mutation. The result is a fish of exceptional visual impact whose flowing finnage commands attention in any livebearer aquarium. Active, adaptable, and suitable for beginners comfortable with moderately hard, slightly alkaline water conditions.
House in a well-planted aquarium of at least 100 L with neutral to slightly alkaline water (pH 7.0–8.0, GH 10–25) at 22–28°C. Feed quality omnivore foods: flake, micro-pellets, frozen Artemia, and vegetable matter. Males may spar with each other; keep a higher ratio of females to males (2:1 or more). The tall dorsal fin is vulnerable to fin-nipping — avoid aggressive species. Compatible with most medium-sized peaceful community fish.
