Taeniochromis holotaenia
Also known as: Holotaenia Hap
Origin: Lake Malawi, Africa
The Holotaenia Hap has a characteristic torpedo body shape with a dark midlateral stripe running from snout to tail, and males display pronounced blue iridescence overlying this stripe. It is a predator of smaller fish and invertebrates. Best suited to very large aquaria with robust, similarly sized haplochromines.
Water: 24-27°C, pH 7.5-9.0, hard alkaline water; high water volume and turnover. Tank: Minimum 350L; open water column, minimal hard decor to reduce injury risk. Feeding: Carnivore diet — large sinking pellets, frozen prawns, krill, and occasional whitebait. Behaviour: Active predator; will consume smaller fish and can be aggressive toward males of similar pattern. Compatibility: Large hap community only; avoid small or slim-bodied species.
