Amatitlania siquia
Also known as: Honduran Red Point Cichlid, HRP Cichlid
Origin: Central America
Amatitlania siquia inhabits Atlantic-draining rivers of Honduras and Nicaragua, where it lives in a wide range of habitats from clear rocky streams to more turbid lowland rivers. Males develop vivid orange-red tips on their dorsal and caudal fins and iridescent blue-green body scaling. It is closely related to the Convict Cichlid but is considered more colourful and slightly less aggressive. Pairs form strong bonds and are excellent parents.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderate hardness (GH 8–18). Tank: 120L minimum; plenty of hiding spots and caves; fine gravel or sand substrate. Feeding: Omnivore; cichlid pellets, flakes, frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp, and vegetable matter. Behaviour: Semi-aggressive; pairs bond strongly and defend fry tenaciously; less aggressive than Convict Cichlid. Compatibility: Best with similarly sized robust fish; can be kept as a breeding pair in a dedicated tank.
