Trichogaster chuna
Also known as: Honey Gourami, Sunset Gourami, Red Honey Gourami
Origin: India, Bangladesh
Trichogaster chuna is native to rivers and ponds of India and Bangladesh, where it inhabits heavily vegetated, slow-moving waters. Breeding males transform from pale silvery-yellow to a stunning golden-honey colour with a jet-black throat and belly. This hardy, undemanding species is suitable for nano and community tanks alike.
Water: 22–28°C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft to moderately hard; tolerant of a wide range. Tank: 40L minimum, floating plants, gentle filtration, open mid-water swimming space. Feeding: Omnivore — flake, micro-pellets, frozen daphnia, baby brine shrimp. Behaviour: Very peaceful; males display to each other but rarely injure. Compatibility: Ideal with nano fish, tetras, rasboras, corydoras; avoid boisterous tankmates.
