About

Oryzias dancena is native to coastal rivers, tidal channels, and rice paddies of India and Bangladesh, where it regularly encounters brackish conditions. It is one of the more salt-tolerant medaka species and thrives across a wide salinity range. Its undemanding nature and peaceful disposition make it an excellent beginner fish for non-standard setups.

Care Guide

Water: 18–28 °C, pH 7.0–8.5, specific gravity 1.000–1.008; tolerates wide salinity range. Tank: 30 L minimum; surface planting, gentle filtration, and warm lighting. Feeding: Omnivorous; accepts micro pellets, flake, dried insects, and live/frozen micro foods. Behaviour: Peaceful surface-to-midwater schooler; keep 8+ for security and breeding activity. Compatibility: Excellent community fish with other small, peaceful brackish or hard-water species.
