Hyphessobrycon loretoensis (inornate form)
Also known as: Inornate Tetra, Loreto Tetra
Origin: Peru (Loreto region)
The inornate form of Hyphessobrycon loretoensis from Loreto, Peru, is an endearing small tetra that is sometimes overlooked in favor of flashier species. Its clean, silver-pink body with minimal markings has a quiet, restrained elegance that complements more colorful tankmates in Peruvian community aquariums. It is exceptionally easy to maintain and breed in captivity, making it a valuable teaching species for hobbyists learning about tetra breeding. Its peaceful temperament and modest size make it compatible with dwarf cichlids, pencilfish, corydoras, and most other small South American community species. A reliable, consistent performer.
Water: pH 5.8–7.0, temperature 24–28 °C; soft, slightly acidic. Tolerates moderate hardness if acclimatized slowly. Tank: 40 L minimum; gentle planted setup with open mid-water space. Feeding: Omnivore; micro-pellets, flake, frozen daphnia, baby brine shrimp, and cyclops. Breeding: Easy egg-scatterer; spawns readily in soft acidic water over fine plants. High fry survival. Compatibility: Peaceful; excellent community fish for Peruvian biotope setups.
