Melanotaenia rubrostriata
Origin: West Papua highlands
Melanotaenia rubrostriata, the Irian Jaya or Red-Striped Rainbowfish, comes from montane rivers in West Papua. Males display a pattern of alternating red and silver horizontal stripes along the flanks, making them immediately recognisable. A cool-to-warm water species that stays active throughout the day. Relatively easy to keep and breed. A great choice for collectors seeking less common New Guinea species.
School of 6+. Temperature 22–26 °C (tolerates cooler). Neutral to slightly alkaline water. Feed flake, spirulina, frozen daphnia. 120+ L. Good surface aeration.
