Pomacea bridgesii var. Ivory
Origin: South America (captive-bred)
The Ivory Apple Snail is a captive-bred all-white color morph of Pomacea bridgesii, displaying a clean creamy-white shell and matching pale ivory body that creates an elegant, understated appearance in any freshwater aquarium. Like all P. bridgesii variants, it is a peaceful scavenger that strongly prefers soft, decaying plant matter, uneaten food, and algae over firm, healthy plant tissue — making it considerably safer with live plants than the invasive P. canaliculata (the large destructive apple snail that decimates planted tanks). It is an active and interesting snail to observe, regularly exploring all areas of the aquarium in search of food. Adequate calcium in the water is important for maintaining shell integrity over its multi-year lifespan.
Provide ample surface area access for air breathing — apple snails are obligate air breathers and will drown if unable to reach the surface. Ensure the water level is not so high that the snail cannot easily emerge. Feed with algae wafers, blanched vegetables, sinking fish food, and calcium-rich foods. Maintain GH 8+ for shell health — soft water causes pitting and erosion. Keep with peaceful fish; avoid pufferfish, large cichlids, and shell-crushing species.
