Rocio octofasciata, the Jack Dempsey, is named after the legendary boxer for its aggressive personality. Its dark body is covered in glittering blue-green and gold spangling that intensifies with age and mood. A Central American substrate spawner from Mexico and Belize. Despite its reputation it can be kept in a community of similarly-sized robust cichlids with careful planning. One of the most striking medium-large cichlids commonly available. Electric Blue morph also available.
120+ L per fish; 200+ L for pairs. Hard to medium water, pH 7.0–8.0. Temperature 24–28 °C. Sandy substrate and robust décor. Feed meaty cichlid pellets, frozen shrimp, and live foods. Very aggressive when breeding — species-only or robust cichlid community.
