Pomacea bridgesii var. Jade
Origin: South America (captive-bred)
The Jade Apple Snail is a striking captive-bred color variant of Pomacea bridgesii with a deep, rich green shell that takes on the appearance of polished jade stone in well-fed specimens with good calcium intake — a color that contrasts beautifully against light-colored substrates, pale sand, and natural driftwood hardscape. Its green shell coloration varies in intensity from jade-green to olive depending on diet and water calcium content. Like all Pomacea bridgesii spike-top apple snails, it is a peaceful scavenger that avoids healthy plant tissue in favor of soft, decaying matter and algae. It does not reproduce in freshwater without laying visible pink egg masses above the waterline, making population control straightforward. An attractive and functional addition to community aquariums.
Provide access to the water surface for air breathing. Feed with algae wafers, blanched vegetables, sinking pellets, and calcium-rich foods. Maintain adequate water hardness (GH 8+) to support the rich green coloration and prevent shell deterioration. Keep with peaceful fish only; avoid shell-crushing predators. Ensure the aquarium has a well-fitting lid as apple snails are accomplished climbers and can exit the tank.
