Parachromis managuensis × Amphilophus citrinellus hybrid
Also known as: Jaguar Midas Hybrid, Jaguar × Midas
Origin: Captive bred (hybrid)
The Jaguar × Midas hybrid results from crosses between Parachromis managuensis (Jaguar Cichlid) and Amphilophus citrinellus (Midas Cichlid). From the Jaguar parent it inherits the distinctive gold-and-black jaguar-spot patterning and large adult size, while the Midas parent contributes the potential for a prominent nuchal hump in mature males and the golden-yellow body colouration of that species.
The result is an impressive fish that combines the predatory power and pattern of the Jaguar Cichlid with the rounded, hump-headed form of the Midas. First-generation hybrids grow very large quickly and display exceptional hybrid vigour. Individual variation is high, with some fish favouring the Jaguar phenotype and others showing more Midas characteristics.
This hybrid requires a very large aquarium and should be considered an advanced-level fish due to its extreme size, aggression, and demanding filtration requirements. It is strictly a specimen fish for the dedicated large-cichlid enthusiast.
Water: 24–28°C, pH 7.0–8.0, moderate to hard water; enormous water changes required — 50% weekly minimum. Tank: Minimum 600L; very powerful sump or canister filtration; large smooth rocks for territory; secure lid. Feeding: Carnivore; large cichlid pellets, whole prawns, earthworms; feed sparingly to prevent obesity. Breeding: May spawn in captivity; aggressive towards mate — use divider during introduction. Compatibility: Keep alone or only with a single robust equally sized partner; will attack and kill smaller fish.
