Danio jaintianensis
Also known as: Jaintia Hills Danio
Origin: Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, India
Danio jaintianensis is described from fast-flowing hill streams in the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, India, where it lives in cool, clear, well-oxygenated water. Its body pattern of a dark lateral stripe on silver-blue scales is classic danio design, but its specific origin and cool-water preferences make it distinct. It is an active, adaptable schooler that does well in community setups with good flow and aeration.
Water: 18–25 °C, pH 6.5–7.5, moderately soft to hard (GH 5–18). Tank: 60 L minimum; good oxygenation, moderate current, planted tank preferred. Feeding: Omnivore — flakes, micro pellets, live Daphnia, frozen bloodworm. Behaviour: Active schooler; keep 8+ and provide flow for natural behaviour. Compatibility: Good with other cool-water community fish; avoid high-temperature species.
