Chaetodon nippon
Origin: Japan, Taiwan, Northwestern Pacific
The Japanese Butterflyfish (Chaetodon nippon) is a temperate-water species from Japan, Taiwan, and the northwestern Pacific, rarely encountered in the international aquarium trade. Its classic chevron pattern of gray and white with yellow fin accents gives it a refined, sophisticated look. Cooler water requirements and limited export make this a highly coveted specimen for specialist marine aquarists.
Requires cooler marine conditions (18–24°C), a spacious aquarium of at least 300 L, and peaceful tankmates. Offer meaty foods such as mysis, krill, and prepared marine diets. Not reef-safe. Best suited to experienced aquarists who can maintain stable cooler temperatures.
