Neohomaloptera johorensis
Also known as: Johor Hillstream Loach, Malaysian Hillstream Loach
Origin: Malaysia
Neohomaloptera johorensis is native to the fast-running rivers of Johor in southern Peninsular Malaysia, making it a distinct biogeographic representative from a poorly studied hillstream fauna. It has a slender and elongated body compared to most other gastromyzontids and modest brownish patterning. Demanding of clean, cool, high-flow conditions, it is an uncommon and prized species for hillstream specialists.
Water: 20-24°C, pH 6.5-7.5, clean, well-oxygenated with strong flow. Tank: Minimum 60 L, smooth boulders and pebbles, powerhead or wavemaker. Feeding: Biofilm and algae grazer; supplement algae wafers and spirulina. Behaviour: Active grazer on rock surfaces; rests in shaded crevices. Compatibility: Peaceful; suitable with small hillstream fish and Gastromyzon.
