Julidochromis dickfeldi
Origin: Lake Tanganyika, Africa (southwestern shore, Cape Tembwe)
Julidochromis dickfeldi is the smallest member of the Julidochromis genus, originating from the southwestern shores of Lake Tanganyika near Cape Tembwe. Its soft blue-brown body is decorated with a series of white or cream spots arranged in loose horizontal rows, giving it a refined and subtle beauty that contrasts with the bolder markings of J. ornatus or J. marlieri. This diminutive species is perfect for smaller Tanganyikan setups and pairs bond readily, making it one of the most accessible Julidochromis for beginners to the Tanganyika cichlid hobby.
House in a rocky aquarium (minimum 80 L) with stacked rockwork creating a cichlid typical cave structure. Maintain hard, alkaline water (pH 7.8–9.0, GH 10–25, KH 8–18) at 24–27°C; use coral sand, crushed coral, or Tanganyika buffer to maintain chemistry. Feed quality cichlid pellets, frozen Artemia, and Daphnia. A mated pair will spawn in crevices between rocks. Compatible with other smaller Tanganyika cichlids.
