About

Apistogramma juruensis is found along the Jurua River, which straddles the Peru-Brazil border deep in western Amazonia. Males develop a classic lyre-shaped caudal fin and display vivid orange-yellow body coloration with contrasting dark lateral markings. It is a moderately demanding species that rewards keepers who maintain appropriate soft, acidic conditions.

Care Guide

Water: 24-29°C, pH 5.0-6.8, soft (GH 2-6). Tank: 60L minimum, sand substrate, caves, driftwood, and fine-leaved plants. Feeding: omnivore — live/frozen foods; quality cichlid micro-pellets accepted. Behaviour: territorial during breeding; harem setup (1M:2-3F) recommended. Compatibility: peaceful community tank with small tetras and Corydoras.
