Juvenile Blue Discus Pair

The Juvenile Blue Discus Pair offers a matched set of two juvenile domestic blue discus — one cobalt-blue and one royal-blue strain — selected for comparable size and body proportions to ensure compatibility during the grow-out phase. Paired from a young age, these fish often develop a natural bond that facilitates eventual spawning.

At 5–6 cm, both fish are in the early colour-development phase. The cobalt blue will develop its solid, metallic base over the following 3–4 months, while the royal blue will begin to show its characteristic horizontal striping as it approaches full size. Both require multiple daily feedings of high-protein foods and impeccable water quality to reach their colour potential.

This pairing is ideal for the hobbyist who wants to start their discus journey with a committed pair, observing the full development from juvenile through to mature, breeding adults.

Water: 28-31°C, pH 5.5-7.0, soft (1-8 dGH), KH 0-4; frequent small water changes essential for juveniles. Tank: Minimum 200 L grow-out tank initially, upgrade to 250 L+ as fish approach 12-15 cm. Feeding: 4-5 small meals daily — baby brine shrimp, finely chopped bloodworm, beefheart paste, juvenile pellets. Breeding: Introduce spawning slate or ceramic cone at 8-10 cm; pair bond may lead to spawning at 12-14 cm. Compatibility: Juvenile pair initially alone; add cardinal tetras or rummynose tetras once fish reach 10 cm.
