Nothobranchius kadleci
Also known as: Kadlec's Nothobranch, Kadlec's Killifish
Origin: Southern Mozambique
Nothobranchius kadleci was described in 2012 from seasonal pools in southern Mozambique. Males exhibit rich red-orange bodies with lighter blue-edged scales, placing it among the more brightly coloured members of the genus. As a relatively newly described and seldom-available species, it is best suited to experienced annual killifish keepers who can provide proper peat incubation and the cooler temperatures it prefers.
Water: 20–26 °C, pH 6.0–7.5, soft acidic water. Tank: 30 L species tank; peat substrate for egg laying; tight lid essential. Feeding: Live and frozen Daphnia, Artemia, blood worm; micro pellets accepted. Behaviour: Males territorial; keep as one male with two or three females. Compatibility: Species tank only; too aggressive and fragile for community setups.
